How much is a phone number worth? What makes a mobile number valuable
Most mobile numbers are worth nothing beyond the SIM. A number with a strong pattern can sell for hundreds of pounds. These are the things that set the price.
How long the pattern is
The longer the repeat, the rarer the number. A number ending in 77 is common; one ending in 777 is much less common; 777777 within the number is rare. Each extra repeated digit makes a number much harder to find.
Where the pattern sits
Endings are worth more than patterns in the middle, because the last digits are what people remember. A number that is patterned from start to finish, with few different digits, sits at the top of the market.
The prefix
Some prefixes are wanted in their own right, such as 07777 or 07888. When the prefix and the ending match (0777 … 777), the value goes up again.
Meaning
Numbers with meaning to a group of buyers sell well: 786, 007, 247, a year such as 1990, or digits seen as lucky, such as 8 in Chinese culture. Demand from those buyers sets the price, not just rarity.
Typical prices
As a guide to current prices in our shop: gold numbers with a simple pattern start from under £10, most memorable numbers are £15 to £80, platinum numbers with stronger patterns are usually £100 to £500, and rare VIP numbers go up to around £1,750. Prices change with what is in stock, so check the shop for today’s numbers.
Gold, platinum and VIP price bands
Shops group numbers into bands so buyers can compare like with like. As a rough guide to our current stock: Gold numbers cover the everyday memorable range, most between £15 and £80. Platinum numbers have stronger or longer patterns and usually cost £100 to £500. VIP numbers are the rarest sequences, up to around £1,750. A number near the top of one band is often a close match for one at the bottom of the next, so it pays to look across both before you decide.
What does not change the price
Some things people expect to matter make no difference. The network the number is on today is not important, because it can be moved with a PAC code in a day. The SIM itself is a standard card. How long the number has existed does not matter either. What buyers pay for is the digits and how easy they are to remember.
How to judge a fair price
- Find the pattern: repeat, ending, pair, run or meaningful digits.
- Look for similar numbers in a collection, such as 777 endings or AA BB numbers, and compare like with like.
- Check where the pattern sits. The same pattern costs more at the end of the number than in the middle.
- Count the distinct digits. Fewer different digits usually means a higher price.
If two numbers look alike but are priced far apart, the dearer one usually has a longer repeat or a matching prefix.
