What is a gold number? Gold, platinum and VIP mobile numbers explained
Gold, platinum and VIP are names the UK number trade uses for mobile numbers that are easy to remember. Here is what each one means and how to choose.
What makes a number “gold”
A gold number is an ordinary UK mobile number with a pattern: repeated digits (07 777 123 777), pairs (44 99), a run (1234) or a neat ending (…000). Nothing about the line is different. It works on any network and any phone. The value is that people remember it after one look, so it works harder on a business card, a van or an advert.
Gold, platinum and VIP: the difference
The names describe how strong and how rare the pattern is.
- Gold: a clear, memorable pattern, usually in the last few digits. This is the largest range and the best value.
- Platinum: a stronger pattern, such as a longer repeat, a pattern across most of the number, or a striking finish.
- VIP: the rarest numbers, with long runs of one digit, perfect mirrors or sequences that are almost never issued.
At VIP Numbers 247 the tier follows the price, so you can compare like with like: VIP numbers are our most exclusive, platinum sits in the middle, and gold covers everything else.
Common gold number patterns
Repeats such as 777777 or 888888 numbers, endings such as 000 or 999, double pairs (AA BB), repeating pairs (AB AB), mirror numbers that read the same both ways, ascending and descending runs (ABCD, DCBA) and meaningful digits such as 007, 786 or 247. Browse them all from the shop using the pattern list.
How to choose one
Say the number out loud: if it is easy to say, it is easy to remember. Put the pattern at the end, where people look last. For a business, choose digits that link to what you do, such as 247 for an emergency service. Then check the price band that suits you; most memorable numbers cost between £15 and £80.
Do I keep my network?
Yes. Every number comes on a real UK pay-as-you-go SIM. Keep it as it is, or text PAC to 65075 and move it to your own network and plan. Our PAC guide shows each step.
